ご挨拶
会場となる旧鹿島小学校は、倉橋町鹿島にある2002年3月に閉校となったばかりの小さな学校です。
タイトルの「CO」には、Co-lony、Co-mmunication、CO(CutOutの略記)の3つの言葉が、旧鹿島小学校との深い関係とともにこめられています。Co-lony(集落)は、瀬戸内海に浮かぶ倉橋島の南端に位置する鹿島を、Co-mmunication(人に伝えること)は、小学校の閉校を想定しています。
教室の壁には、太陽の光をあびて明るい教室の中に、子どもたちが冬休みの宿題で書いた書き初めや、画用紙いっぱいに塗られた絵が、貼られたままです。折り紙で作った飾りや、大きな口を開けた笑顔の子どもたちの写真も色褪せずそのままの姿で残っています。3月のカレンダーは、止まってしまった時間を知らせる印のように、黒板の横に静かにぶら下がっています。窓の外からは、子どもたちの陽気な笑い声が、青い海の見える廊下を歩く足音とともに、そっと聞こえてきそうです。
今でしか感じることの出来ないこうした空間で、それぞれがColonyやCommunication、あるいはCOといったキーワードに作品にして表現すること、それが「CO」の目的です。 この作品展を開催することによって、私たちは、少しの間だけ、大きな自然に囲まれたこの小学校の扉を開きます。その扉からの風に、大きな広がりを感じさせることができるかもしれません。
Four graduate students at Hiroshima City University hold the exhibition "CO" at the former Kashima Elementary School. The place for this exhibition, Kashima Elementary School is a small one and it was closed this March.
The title ; "CO" contains three words ; Co-lony, Co-mmunication, and CO (cut out), which are deeply related to this small school.
Co-lony is associated with Kashima which is local at the southern end of Kurahashi island in the Inland Sea. Co-mmunication, with the activity at this elementary school. CO, with the closedown of it.
On the wall of the classroom, there remind calligraphy works written by children as winter homework, and pictures drawn by them. Decorations made of colored paper and picture of children smiling with their mouth open, are felt on the wall without losing color. The calendar of March is still put next to the background silently, as the sign which tells us that the time would stop. It seems as if we could hear children laughing cheerfully on the ground and walking around on the floor which commands the blue sea.
Expressing such key words as Colony, Communication and CO in the work of each artists at this unique, temporary space, it the purpose of "CO".
By this exhibition, we can open the door of this elementary school which are surrounded by nature, for a while. The wind from the door might make you feel the vast extent of the space.
